At Long Last
By Mattie Stepanek, October 1998
Half-empty trees
Scritch at
Ghouly gray skies,
Laughing black crow
Haunts a sound
To the wise,
Orange-toothed
Pumpkins smirk
Jagged tooth grins,
Message is clear:
Halloween now begins!

Very descriptive. Don’t let the goblins get you.

“At Long Last” is a very good title! We’ve been seeing H’n costumes and such since the middle of August. Last week when we were shopping I saw the H’n stuff still up and my mind did a double take. Surely Halloween’s over by now? But no. We still get almost another week before this stuff gets put away, even though stores here have started selling Christmas decorations already. Sigh…
