America has lost a true hero, Rep. John Lewis has left us to carry on his fight for equality in America. It is not enough to grieve his loss. We must stand up, speak up for justice for all Americans.

Several years ago in a Veritas class at Bellarmine, one of the people we studied was John Lewis. I knew the name because of him being a Congressman, but did not know how he became involved in the cause of social justice. I was deeply moved and continue to be inspired by what I learned. His family were sharecroppers and worked on a plantation. As the adults worked the fields from sunup to sundown, an older adult would take care of all of the children of those who slaved away on the land. There were I believe 18 children in the house. One day, a terrible storm came and the winds were rocking the house. The wise Aunt told the children to all go to a particular corner of the house where the wind was blowing the hardest, causing the house to lift off the foundation.. They held the house down. Then, when the wind shifted, she would have them all go to that part of house and again, held the house on it’s foundation. The lesson he said he learned from that childhood experience became the reason he became who he was and what he did in life. One person may not be able to make a difference, but when people pull together, the impossible becomes the possible. Seeing and hearing of his death brought this memory to the fore again, and it still inspires me to stay involved. As a former President said so eloquently, “Together, we can”. RIP, John Lewis, and thank you for your service.

BECAUSE WE THE PEOPLE ARE SO DIVIDED, WE DON’T PULL TOGETHER ANYMORE.
IS WHY THE CORONAVIRUS IS WINNING THE WAR !
