Once again, you have provided much needed information. It breaks my heart that there are organizations which are more about themselves and their finances than actually providing useful information and paths forward to advance cures. This is shameful on every level. Thanks for the link which can help steer us in the right direction.

Thanks for this post; it really touches me! I read the first article and said a hearty “Yea & Amen.” This has morphed into marketing the “pink ribbon” brand. Marketing law: whatever appeals is fair game.
I don’t want to be harsh, but realistic. I feel drawing attention to breast cancer specifically is more of a play on emotions and sensuality than a desire to fund cancer research. The unemotional fact is that other cancers are harder to cure and kill a lot more. Yet breast cancer is lifted out as the big killer. Some males get breast cancer, too, but this is all a women’s thing. “Our mothers, our sisters.” Who can resist that heart-touching appeal?
I actually wrote a poem about this once. my own experience with breast cancer and losing my dad to an awful cancer of the sinus. NO appeal there. Nobody does lavish campaigns for the uglies, like the prostate cancer that killed my grandfather, the bowel cancer that took grandma, or the leukemia that wipes out so many children.
Donate to cancer research, by all means, but don’t let this emotional appeal distract funds from other necessary areas of research. End of rant. 🙂
