Staying Alive 3 of 6

Now we all have a puppy and female doctors . . . . .

Next: Read

Obviously, you are reading at the moment, but this blog post is too short to meet the recommendation for “Staying Alive.” Research shows that reading a book for one-half hour each day has a significant survival advantage. Other reading counts such as blogs or magazines but books are best according to a study by professors at Yale University.

Several books have been reviewed here on Crooked Creek and many readers shared their favorite authors and books in an earlier post. So, I know there are readers out there. If you are not one of those it’s time to grab a book off the shelf and start prolonging your life. It’s never too late to start good habits.

  1. Reading has always been a pleasure. We were raised without a TV and we rode bicycles to the Parkland Branch Library several times a week to get books. When a neighbor passed away in 1968, her brother gave us her TV ( We didn’t have one in 1963 and did not see the coverage of the assassination of JFK). By the time a TV came into our home, we were well into the habit of reading and never looked back. Presently, I am reading a book for my class at Bellarmine, and Becoming, by the former First Lady. Reading helps keep me learning, as well as, serving as a distraction to some of the harsh realities of today’s news. I guess you can say in a very real sense, I am “booked” solid, and have no regrets.
